<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\nAm 20.07.1990 trieb das srilankische Milit\u00e4r das Dorf zusammen und brachte alle Menschen in dieses Koyil. Acht der Menschen wurden mit verbundenen Augen und gefesselten H\u00e4nden zu dem Dorfbewohner neben ihm gebracht. Dort wurden sie angegriffen und get\u00f6tet. Im selben Monat nahm das srilankische Milit\u00e4r 57 junge M\u00e4nner fest, nachdem es das Dorf zusammengetrieben hatte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die jungen M\u00e4nner wurden in die umliegenden D\u00f6rfer gebracht, wo sie erschossen, in Massengr\u00e4bern verscharrt und verbrannt wurden. Insgesamt wurden in diesen zwei Tagen 137 Menschen get\u00f6tet. Die Verhaftungen und T\u00f6tungen setzten sich danach mehrere Monate lang t\u00e4glich fort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nallaiah Kamalanathan sagt: \u201eWir dachten, wenn alle an einem Ort stehen, w\u00fcrde die Armee uns nicht t\u00f6ten. Also rannten alle Dorfbewohner zur Sicherheit in den Koyil. Innerhalb einer Woche sind wir zweimal zum Tempel gelaufen. Das erste Mal war es am 20. Juli 1990 und dann noch einmal am 27. Juli. Die Dorfbewohner von Siththandy und Mavadivembu rannten alle zu diesem Koyil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die SL-Armee umzingelte das Koyil. Sie kamen zusammen mit singhalesischen Mobs. Alle im Tempel wurden aufgefordert, sich in eine Reihe zu stellen, und sie w\u00e4hlten die jungen M\u00e4nner aus. Alle standen zitternd da. Als jeder der Jungen ausgew\u00e4hlt wurde, schrien ihre Familien, M\u00fctter und V\u00e4ter. Sie flehten mit ihren H\u00e4nden um Gnade. Sie flehten und schilderten ihre Schwierigkeiten. Doch die Armee h\u00f6rte nichts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am 20. wurden 80 Personen in ihrem Fahrzeug abgef\u00fchrt. Am 27. wurden 57 Menschen weggebracht. Zwei Tage sp\u00e4ter gingen ihre Eltern in alle Armeelager, um nach ihnen zu suchen. Alle leugneten, die Jungen mitgenommen zu haben. Erst eine Woche sp\u00e4ter fanden wir heraus, dass sie alle, die sie mitgenommen hatten, get\u00f6tet hatten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wir dachten, sie w\u00fcrden sie nach der Untersuchung zur\u00fccklassen. Die 137 Personen, die weggebracht wurden, wurden mit einem Bus in ein singhalesisches Dorf gebracht. Dort wurden sie aufgefordert, sich in einer Reihe aufzustellen. Die Armee verk\u00fcndete der singhalesischen Bev\u00f6lkerung, dass sie LTTE-Mitglieder gefangen habe. Dann wurden sie erschossen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ihre Leichen wurden nie an uns zur\u00fcckgegeben. Bis zum heutigen Tag weinen ihre M\u00fctter, weil sie nicht wissen, was mit ihren Kindern geschehen ist. Die SLA, die ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken leugnete, dass sie niemanden gefangen oder get\u00f6tet hat, wird eines Tages vernichtet werden.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n Siththandy (Citt\u0101nti) village is situated 8 Kms north of the Mattakalappu (Batticaloa) town. The village has an ancient and famous Saivaite Koyil (Temple). Worship at Siththandi Murukan Koyil (Temple) is a blend of Eelamtamil \u00a0traditional worship patterns. Mayil Kattu Thiruvila (Tiruvil\u0101) is a special event, where there is cultural approval by parents and relatives for love marriages. In the evening of the water-cutting ceremony, some of the devotees holding \u0101lavatam (Like Umbrella) visit the house of the Vannakar and return with Seervarisai (not dowry), an intimation of Valli’s marriage to Murukan.\u00a0 Another important event, is the Putir K\u0101vi Kotuthal (when every farmer carries in procession a portion of the harvest as offering to the deity). This temple is rich in its large extent of paddy lands offered to the temple by past kings and rich landlords. On 20.07.1990, Sri Lankan military rounded up the village and took all the people into this Koyil. Eight of the people were taken blindfolded with their hands tied to the villager next to him. There they were attacked and killed. In the same month, again, the Sri Lankan military took 57 young men after rounding up the village. The young men were taken to the adjacent villages where they were shot and killed and put in mass graves and burnt. In total 137 people were killed over these two days. The arrests and killing continued for several months after on a daily basis. Nallaiah Kamalanathan says, \u201cWe thought that if everyone stood in one place the Army would not kill us. So, all the villagers ran for safety into the Koyil. Within one week we had run to the temple twice. First it was on the 20th of July of 1990 and then again on the 27th. Siththandy villagers and Mavadivembu villagers all ran to this Koyil. The SL Army surrounded the Koyil. They came along with Sinhala mobs. Everyone in the temple was asked to stand in line and they picked out the young boys. Everyone stood trembling. As each one of the boys were picked, their families, mothers and fathers, all screamed. They begged for mercy with their hands. They pleaded saying their difficulties. Nothing went into the ears of the Army. On the 20th, 80 people were taken away in their vehicle. On the 27th, 57 people were taken away. Two days later, all their parents went to all the Army Camps in search for them. Everyone denied taking the boys. Only a week later, we found out that they had killed everyone that they had taken away. We thought they would leave them after investigation. The 137 people that were taken away were taken by bus to a Sinhalese village. There they were asked to stand in a line. The Army announced to the Sinhala people that they had caught LTTE members. Then they were shot dead. Their bodies were never returned to us. Till this day, their mothers still cry not knowing what had happened to their children.
