Am 18. November 2006, gegen 10.30 Uhr, n\u00e4herten sich Angeh\u00f6rige der Armee der Regierung Sri Lankas (GOSL) von mehreren Seiten dem Gel\u00e4nde der Landwirtschaftsschule in Thandikulam, Vavuniya, und schossen mit scharfer Munition in die Luft. Mehrere Sch\u00fcler in Uniform befanden sich zu diesem Zeitpunkt im Praktikum. Als sie die Sch\u00fcsse h\u00f6rten, gingen die Sch\u00fcler in Deckung, indem sie sich flach auf den Boden legten.

Beim Betreten des Schulgel\u00e4ndes hatten Angeh\u00f6rige der Armee der GOSL die Sch\u00fcler aufgefordert, aufzustehen. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt stand ein Sch\u00fcler, Ramachandran Atchuthan, auf und erkl\u00e4rte, dass alle Anwesenden Sch\u00fcler der besagten Schule seien und in keiner Weise mit einem fr\u00fcheren Claymore-Minen-Angriff auf ein Fahrzeug der srilankischen Armee in Verbindung st\u00fcnden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In dieser Phase schossen die Angeh\u00f6rigen der GOSL-Armee Atchuthan aus n\u00e4chster N\u00e4he in den Kopf. Anschlie\u00dfend wurden drei weitere Studenten, Gopinath aus Thirukonamalai, Rizwan Mohammed aus Mattakalappu, Thirunamam Sinthujan aus Vavuniya und Sangaralingam Sinthujan, ebenfalls durch Sch\u00fcsse get\u00f6tet. Die Angeh\u00f6rigen der GOSL-Armee er\u00f6ffneten daraufhin wahllos das Feuer auf die \u00fcbrigen Sch\u00fcler und verletzten zehn Sch\u00fcler, darunter sechs M\u00e4dchen, schwer.

Die Soldaten, die das Schulgel\u00e4nde betraten, kamen von dem Kontrollposten in der Soya Lane. Der Magistrat von Vavuniya, M. Ilancheliyan, besuchte das Krankenhaus von Vavuniya und f\u00fchrte erste Untersuchungen durch. Thandikulam befindet sich 4 km n\u00f6rdlich von Vavuniya an der A9. Omanthai liegt etwa 17 km n\u00f6rdlich von Vavuniya.<\/p>\n\n\n

On 18 November 2006, at about 10.30 am, the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) Army personnel had approached the premises of the Agriculture Farm School in Thandikulam, Vavuniya from several fronts firing in the air with live ammunition. Several students dressed in uniform were engaged in Practicals at the time. On hearing the firing the students had taken cover by lying flat on the ground. On entering the school premises, members of the GOSL\u2019s Army had ordered the students to stand up. At this point, one student Ramachandran Atchuthan, had stood up and explained that all those present were students of the said school and had no connection whatsoever to an earlier claymore mine attack that had been carried out on a Sri Lanka Army vehicle. At this stage the GOSL Army personnel shot Atchuthan in the head at point blank range. Subsequently three other students, Gopinath from Thirukonamalai, Rizwan Mohammed of from Mattakalappu, Thirunamam Sinthujan from Vavuniya and Sangaralingam Sinthujan were also shot in execution style killings. The GOSL Army personnel then proceeded to open fire randomly at the remaining students, grievously wounding ten students of whom six were girls. The soldiers who entered the school premises had come from the check post located at Soya Lane.\u00a0 Vavuniya magistrate M. Ilancheliyan visited the Vavuniya hospital and conducted initial inquiries. Thandikulam is located 4 km north of Vavuniya on A9.
