Am 21. April 1985 traf die SLAF sehr fr\u00fch am Morgen ein und bezog ihre Positionen. Wir schliefen noch. Wenn wir fr\u00fcher erfuhren, dass die SLA kommen w\u00fcrde, versteckten wir uns im Wald und blieben dort einige Tage lang ohne Essen. Aber an diesem Morgen waren wir ahnungslos. Da unser Haus direkt an der Oddisuddan Road lag, konnten wir nicht weglaufen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sie kamen mitten in der Nacht und fr\u00fch am Morgen und umstellten die Stra\u00dfen, B\u00fcsche und Str\u00e4ucher in der Hoffnung, die Einheimischen zu erwischen. Sie kamen aus Mullaithivu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sivananthan Megambalam entging an jenem schicksalhaften Tag nur knapp dem Tod. Sein Bericht \u00fcber den Vorfall lautet wie folgt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sie trieben die Leute zusammen und brachten sie zum Puthupalavu Shop am Puthukkudiyiruppu Markt. Auch mich haben sie verhaftet. Aber weil meine Mutter schreiend und flehend auf sie zugelaufen kam, um mich freizulassen, lie\u00dfen sie mich aus einem unbekannten und gl\u00fccklichen Grund gehen. Nachdem sie ihre Razzia beendet hatten, fuhren sie in ihren Armeefahrzeugen davon. Sie nahmen die Verhafteten auf dem R\u00fccksitz ihres gepanzerten Fahrzeugs mit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Etwa einen halben Kilometer von unserem Haus entfernt, an der Stra\u00dfe nach Oddisuddan, gab es einige sehr dichte B\u00fcsche. Wir h\u00f6rten eine gro\u00dfe Explosion und h\u00f6rten weiterhin kleinere Ger\u00e4usche. Sp\u00e4ter erfuhren wir, dass \u00fcber 30 Menschen in eine Gasse nahe der Oddisuddan Road gebracht und erschossen wurden. Die meisten von ihnen starben. Thurairatnam, der Leiter der Multi Purpose Cooperative Society, konnte nur mit M\u00fche und gro\u00dfem Mut entkommen. Die Leichen wurden in einem der SLA-Fahrzeuge zur Oddisuddan Road gebracht und mit Kerosin und Teer verbrannt.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 21st April 1985, SLAF arrived very early in the morning and took their positions. We were still asleep. Previously if we found out that the SLA were going to come, we would go and hide in the forest and remain there without food for a few days. However that morning, we were unaware. As our house was right next to Oddisuddan Road, we were unable to run anywhere. They would come in the middle of the night and early in the morning and surround the roads, shrubs and bushes in hope of catching the locals. They would come from Mullaithivu. Sivananthan Megambalam narrowly escaped death on that fateful day. His account of the incident is as follows: They rounded up people and took them to Puthupalavu Shop at Puthukkudiyiruppu market. They arrested me too. But because my mother came running towards them screaming and pleading to let me go \u2013 they for some unknown and lucky reason did. Once they had finished their round up, they started leaving in their army vehicles. They took the people they had arrested in the back of their armoured vehicle. About half a kilometer from our house, by the side of Oddisuddan road, there were some very thick bushes. We heard a big explosion and continued to hear smaller noises. We later found out that over 30 people were taken to a lane near Oddisuddan Road and shot. Most of the people died. Thurairatnam, the head of the Multi Purpose Cooperative Society managed to escape with great difficulty and courage.
