Power of Ranil Wickramasinghe ‘2024

Over the last 15 years, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe has held power as Prime Minister and President for six years. During his tenure, the Nava(L)kuzhi genocidal Sinhala settlement was initiated. The settlements in Vavuniya North, Kokkachankulam (Kalaphokaswewa 1 & 2), and Namalpura were established as a Sinhala settlements with genocidal intent. Sinhalese settlements were also created in Malanoor (12th Block) and Eramadu (10th Block) within the Kuchavelly Divisional Secretary Division.

More than 650 Sinhalese families settled in the Chalappaiyar area of Thirukonamalai (Trincomalee). Genocidal Sinhala settlements were formed along the Mannar Madavachi road in Vavuniya, and a genocidal Sinhala settlement was established in Mannar Musali. Two hundred acres of farmland surrounding the Kokkadiwan Pond were distributed to 165 Sinhalese families. Additionally, many border villages of Vavuniya, adjacent to Othiyamalai, were renamed as “Gajabhagupura.”

Genocidal Sinhala settlements were particularly established in areas such as Ceylon Theatre, Dollars Farm, Thanikal, and Navalar Farm. Many Sinhalese villages, such as Singapura and the 13th Colony, were formed on the border of Mullaitivu. In Kokutoduwai, 2,156 acres of land were distributed to the Sinhalese people, who were also settled in Kotakkeni, Ambattan Vaikkal, Vellakallady, and Thotta Kanda Kulam in Kokutoduwai.

Approximately 647 acres of land in Andankulam, Thirukonapatti, Athangadavai, Marudadikulavely, Aladikulam, Samippila Kandal, Eerakkolundan Veli, Padalaikallu, Nittakaikulam, and other areas were allocated for genocidal Sinhala settlements. Sinhala fishermen settled in five different locations—Kokkuthoduvai, Pulipaainthakal, Nayaru, Kokilai-Mukathuvaram, and Saalai—to work in these areas during the fishing seasons.

The lands of the Eelam Tamil nation in Suriyanaru and Munthirikaikulam areas were confiscated and given to Sinhalese settlers. A model village for the Sinhalese people was created in the Keviliamadu area of Mattakalappu (Batticaloa), where houses were provided to 20-25 Sinhalese families, and financial assistance was given to more than 60 families. Additionally, 13 Sinhalese farmers were settled on land owned by the Mahaweli Authority in the Madavanai area of Mayilattamadu in Mattakalappu (Batticaloa).

In addition to these planned genocidal Sinhala settlements, thousands of plots of land, agricultural lands, grazing lands, and water bodies have been confiscated by the Sri Lankan Army, the Department of Archaeology, the Department of Forest Resources, the Department of Wildlife, the Mahaweli Development Council, and Derawada Buddhist monks during Ranil Wickramasinghe’s period in power.
